With a BA in Fine Art and Art History, Nick went to Florence in 1992 to study at the Charles H. Cecil Studios where he became senior instructor. He returned to England in 2002 to establish the Sarum Studio and pursue his interest in portraiture and art-historical writing. Nick has exhibited widely (including the Royal Society of Portrait Painters 2007 and 2008), while commissions have taken him throughout Europe and the United States.

Nick was the first to revive the teaching of sight-size in the UK in 1995 at the Sarum Studio. He has since taught at the Prince of Wales Drawing School in London, and in Norway, Copenhagen, Jersey and Mexico City, while he continues to teach regularly at the Cecil Studios in Florence. Nick had a series of essays published in The Artist magazine in 2005, and is currently working on a book about sight-size portrait painting.
